Quick Prep: Home Baked Chocolate Croissants
I'm rather picky about my croissants and most of the ones bought from stores and pastry shops never taste as fluffy and rich. Since I'm too lazy to slave over croissant dough preparation every weekend, I've been on the hunt for a good alternative: frozen unbaked croissants.
I know this doesn't exactly fit into the quick prep category since there is some preparation involved by I figured there is no faster alternative that will provide the same taste unless you have an excellent croissant seller nearby. Trader Joe's sells this awesome frozen chocolate croissant along with the classic flavor, almond and pumpkin (not sure if this is seasonal). The classic isn't bad but it's not fluffy enough for me and a tad bit too salty. There is this breakfast place back home that makes the best croissants ever and I've been trying to find a match. Anyways, it comes in a box of 4 and all you have to do is place them on buttered sheets and let them rise for a few hours before you pop them into the oven. The box says you should let them rise overnight but since it's not too cold just yet, that will make them way too big.
Just remember they will expand a bit more once in the oven. Definitely give this a try!
