10 Face Products That Don't Work For Me

I've been doing a little reflection on all the face products that I've used since I started wearing makeup. Most of my purchases have been successful and I have enjoyed them very much but there are always a few that proved to be quite disastrous.

I know that some of the following are cult favorites but they just did nothing for me or actually worsened things. Please keep in mind that even though I found them to be bad products, they may work well for you since everyone is different. You may refer to my skin legend to see where I stand.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 Oil Free in Nude ($43)

So may people swear by this but I simply cannot see its virtues. It's mainly sheer coverage and can be built to a medium coverage with some layering. However, if you layer too much, it becomes a little heavy. It does have a nice dewy look that quickly turns into an oily look after a few hours of wear. It's not a bad product but I believe for the price you are paying, there are much better options.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer ($32)

This base made no difference. My foundation and tinted moisturizer did not last much longer or settle in a nicer manner. The only benefit I can think of is the smooth application.

Laura Mercier Mineral Finishing Powder in #1 ($32)

The product claims to be super fine and promises to create a flawless finish but I found it to be grainy and casts a slightly white look to the face. I feel a little chalky wearing this and there seems to be no benefits when I do but look powdered up. Trust me, I have tried this will all kinds of brushes. The sieve swivel cover is absolutely horrible. This is a serious design flaw that they should address. The gap between the sieve and its cover is too big causing it to create a mess when you travel.

Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF 15 in ($36)

Ok. I promise this is the last LM product I'm going to complain about. And yes, there is actually one face product by her that I enjoy. This is a really mediocre mineral foundation that provides sheer to medium coverage. Some people claim that this can offer full coverage but I would beg to disagree. My biggest problem with this is its minimal lasting power. I can probably get 3-4 hours of wear before everything disappears from my face. Again, this packaging suffers from the same sieve cover problem.

Bobbi Brown Oil Free Even-Finish Compact Foundation in #2 Sand ($46 Discontinued)

This is a horrible horrible product. I love most Bobbi Brown products but this is by far the worst. It's chalky upon application and 'floats' on your face immediately after application. Thank goodness it has been discontinued. They also suggested this for people with oily skin and I can just see that failing miserably.

Lancome Color Ideal Pressed Powder 8 Hour Matte Effect in 01 Light ($34 Discontinued)

Another useless product. It's one of those sheer setting powders that ruins your look. Super dry and chalky. Does not keep your face matte at all, not even for 2 hours. I'm so glad they stopped producing this. It was a complete waste of money and now I've become reluctant to try any of the other Lancome pressed powders.

MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC15 ($18)

It provides great coverage and there is a huge selection of colors to choose from but it's just not my choice of an everyday concealer. My biggest problem with it is that it's too dry, especially during the winter months. I don't want to waste time every morning warming up the concealer between my finger tips to get great results. It also claims to be waterproof and I've worn this to the pool to test things out. It's more water resistant than water proof and it doesn't last as long as the MUFE one.

MAC Pressed Blot Powder in Medium ($24)

The mica & silica only kept the oil at bay for a few hours and I needed to touch up quite frequently. The powder is not translucent but has some color to it. This could be a problem if you don't want a powdered look. The initial result is this nice blurred out matte look but this just wasn't that impressive of a product. I feel that with a good foundation/BB cream and a dust of a lasting powder, this blot powder becomes pointless.

YSL Matt Touche ($42)

There are many lovely things about this product such as the divine silky texture it leaves, the convenient packaging, and easy application. However, it's properties do not justify the price. I haven't noticed that my foundation lasted any longer with this nor did it brighten the complexion. It keeps my face matte for about 3-4 hours but that's all about it. The instruction sheet also says you can touch up by applying directly onto of your makeup. Don't do it! It definitely smudges. The product description misled me to think much more of this.

Hada Labo Moist Emulsion BB Cream in Natural Beige

I really wanted to like this BB cream. It's so light weight and contain high SPF. I thought I found the perfect summer face product with the perfect color match until it oxidized on my face. Lots of Asian bloggers swear by this but it just oxidizes so much on my skin. I look a bit too tanned after 10 min accompanied by a tint of orange. The formulation also does not sit well on my skin and eventually starts 'floating' quite a bit. I've put this one put for sale on my blog if anyone is interested.
