5 Ways to Prevent Those Sunglass Marks on Your Face

I don't wear glasses so the smudged makeup problem only becomes more apparent during the hot summer months. Sunglasses are a must during sunny days and they instantly add style to your outfit. Unfortunately, they often destroy your perfect makeup application. Other than the weight of your eyewear, sebum and perspiration in the region will collude and leave you that annoying under eye smudge line.

Over the years, I've tested out a lot of foundations, concealers, powders and methods to solve this problem. It has been a struggle but here are a few tips that I think are worth a try. If any of you guys have other great ideas, please share them in the comments below!

Bare

Obvious and simple. Cover your problem areas with some concealer and setting powder while leaving the area that your eyewear rests on bare. This only works if your skin condition allows it and it's a bit trickier with regular glasses since the lenses are not tinted and any color/texture differences on your skin could be more obvious.

Primer

This is sort of a hit or miss. You have to take into consideration how the primer works with your skin, the other face products that you use, sweat and sebum. A lot of the primers will do close to nothing for preventing this problem. The key is to be patient and keep testing.

Sheerness

The more you put on this area, the more likely it will smudge and the deeper the mark. Wear minimal foundation. I think good BB creams with a lasting formulas are even better. They seem to grip onto the skin a little better and a lot of them are somewhat perspiration resistant.

Oil/Wax Based Formulas

This is not a prevention method but more of an easy fix tip. If you use oil or wax based makeup products in the region of interest, you can easily smooth out any marks that are left by your eyewear. These types of products will smudge faster than most others but they are also the most malleable.

Powders

This is a little tricky. If you only use a long lasting powder foundation in the area that your eyewear rests on, it normally won't budge. However, this is given that you do not sweat and produce abundant oils in that region. Just a little perspiration will ruin things. You will need to carry your compact and a sponge with you to make any corrections.

Fixing Spray

I personally think this one works the best other than having bare skin in the region. A good fixing spray will freeze everything you apply on your face and make your makeup last for the entire day. Please note that MAC Fix Plus is actually not a fixing spray. It's more of a refreshener. Combined with a sheer makeup application, something like the Skindinavia fixing spray will prevent the formulation of those creases.
